One listing, five decisions

Imagine the lobby says “£4.50 + £0.50 · 5,000 chips · 10-minute levels · late registration 60 minutes · one re-entry”. It is an example, not a live event.

  • Entry costs £5: £4.50 to the prize pool and £0.50 in fees.
  • The 5,000 chips are tournament units, not £5,000 you can withdraw.
  • At blinds of 25/50, a 5,000 stack is 100 big blinds. At 100/200, the same starting stack is only 25 big blinds.
  • Ten-minute levels describe the speed of blind increases, not a finish time.
  • If the second entry also costs £5, using it makes the total £10.

Late registration does not delay the start

The event begins at its scheduled time. A late-registration window lets people enter after that start, usually into a different blind level. You may receive the same number of chips but a much shorter stack measured in big blinds. Look at both numbers.

The labels describe different things

A multi-table tournament, or MTT, describes the number of tables. A Sit & Go starts when its required seats fill and can also have multiple tables. Freezeout means no return after losing your stack. Re-entry allows a new entry within its rules. A bounty format awards part of the prize money for eliminations. One event can carry several of these labels.

A satellite may award a ticket, not cash

Suppose a satellite pays its top three finishers seats in another event. Before entering, find that event’s date, location or platform, and the ticket’s restrictions. A seat you cannot use is not the same as a cash prize of the advertised value.

Decide what you can commit

If you must stop in 90 minutes, a scheduled MTT with no known finish time may not fit. Leaving the computer does not normally pause your tournament: blinds continue. Set your own maximum number of entries before registration, even if the event permits more. For learning the action without fees, use the private play-chip table.
